Perky-Pet® Rocks the 2010 Rockport Hummingbird Festival
Every fall hummingbird enthusiasts gather in the coastal Texas towns of Rockport and Fulton to celebrate the hummingbird migration of the Ruby-Throat Hummingbirds. Ruby-Throats aren't the only ones – other species have been spotted as well and include Rufous, Black-chinned, Buff-bellied and Allen's.
The event, one of the largest in the U.S., offers a little bit of something for all ages. Over the long weekend there are daily keynote speakers discussing not only hummingbirds, but other types of birds, butterflies, and so on. Bus and boat birding trips, hummingbird trips, and self-guided hummingbird home tours are offered.
If you've never witnessed hummingbird banding it's a spectacular experience – one not to be missed! This activity is also available at the event. In addition, there is plenty of time to do some shopping at the hummingbird mall, which holds over 80 exhibitors selling bird-related products and offering educational materials as well.
And that's not all… there are many other activities offered – perfect for bird lovers.
Perky-Pet® has sponsored the event for the past two years and take it from us – it is well worth it! I had hummingbirds about 2 wks. ago but none are coming. I miss seeing them, will they come back soon? I live in Lynn Haven near Panama City, FL in the panhandle. Thank you.
They probably have passed by you already Joyce on their way South for migration season. I’m sure you will see them again for migration in 2011! Keep an eye out, they normally hit your area around late February, early March.
I have a lot of success with feeding numbers of types of birds with sunflower, suet and thistle feeders. BUT, no Hummingbirds…What can I do.
I have hummingbird feeders, various flowers that are supposed to attract hummingbirds and butterflys but no birds….any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
