Wild Wednesday Giveaway

Categories: Uncategorized

Congratulations to Patty, this week's Wild Wednesday winner!  We will contact the winner by email.  Judging from all your comments it sounds like the hummingbirds have finally found your feeders!  Thanks to everyone for your comments.

This week's Wild Wednesday Giveaway features our Glass Oasis hummingbird feeder.  It features a glass lid and feeding ports, along with a decorative metal basket and hanger.  (Good tip… oasis style feeders are great for deterring bees and wasps, as they can't reach the nectar!)ww 8.25 Wild Wednesday Giveaway

Happy HummerWars!!! This year we put up a new hummingbird feeder next to our pool and sunflower garden. At first a male and female were regulars at the feeder, but after a few weeks we acquired at least 3 more young birds to the mix, we think they are the offspring of the original pair. As the young ones have gotten older over the last few months, the parents are now chasing them away each time they try to drink at the feeder. So we added a second feeder about a month ago. They still fight but they at least have a chance of sipping at one or the other when its not being guarded by a parent! We watched the mature male knock down one of the young males, hold him to the ground, and actually stand on him for about 20 seconds… stunning the young one… trying to keep him off of the feeder! Wow, we had no idea they could be such combatants!

I do what I can so all animals don’t die I love all kinds & the humming bird is so cool I have one that looks in my window to see what the cat is doing that is laying there then it flys away & comes back for more food.

It’s March and I have begun noticing the return of some birds to Western New York. Yes, Spring is almost here. There are more Canadian Geese in the area now, too. Migration of birds. I love this time of year. I enjoy listening to the sounds of the returning birds. My dog seems to enjoy them, too, as he watches the sky more.

Spring is here and we have been observing lots of red winged blackbirds, Canadian geese and yesterday for the firt time, killdeers. The geese are pairing up on the neighbor’s lake and it’s so enjoyable to sit and watch them.
